Mind-Setting

Transform farmers’ mindset from “farming as a production unit” to “farming as a business” through interactive activities.

Partnership Building

Establish Site Working Groups (SWGs) composed of the implementing agency, LGU, research and other government institutions, and the academe. Such group shall oversee, guide, support, and sustain the RiceBIS communities and clusters.

Cluster Formation

Start with individual smallholder farmers, organize/group them into clusters of about 10-15 members who will commit to market their product together.

Cluster Capacity Enhancement

Through the Modified Farmers’ Field School (FFS), train clusters on palay production, rice processing, organizational building and management, and agroenterprise development as well as new technologies and effective rice practices toward increasing their rice production and income.

Organized Farm Production

Encourage farmers’ collective choice of rice variety to plan for the season and facilitate an organized/synchronous planting and harvesting schedules for easier facilitation of collective marketing transactions.

Collective Marketing

Collective Marketing shall increase the bargaining power of the farmers and thereby increase their income. Farmers are in need of assistance not only on their production concerns but also on how they deal with market and business development service providers.
